Giving Gold Coins as Gifts

How do you handle gift giving? Although many people are very easy to buy gifts for, there are some who fall into the category of being impossible to buy gifts for. No doubt you know quite a few of these people. There are all sorts of reasons for this difficulty. Some have everything they could possible want. Others are folks who simply don't react so you never know whether or not they've liked what you've given them. And others are just plain critical about everything. But no matter how difficult these people may be, there are occasions throughout the year, such as Christmas, or birthdays, or anniversaries, when you just have to get them something. Gold might be the answer. What's there not to like when it comes to gold?

You might think the whole idea of gifting gold, or more precisely gold coins is not such a great idea at all. The whole point is, whatever the other person thinks, the value of gold is universal. You might buy someone a cigarette case and realize that the person has stopped smoking so the gift is actually worthless to him. On the other hand, gold coins come with their intrinsic worth - they are not dependent on the person for some kind of value. Even if the person has gold or maybe even gold coins, one more would always be welcome in his collection. Gold coins will always earn you gratitude, even from the worst offender when it comes to gifts.

Once you have made a decision, the next question is, what gold coins should you be looking at? Well, commemorative gold coins are always a hit because there is something about them that whispers 'rare' and 'limited'. Now some of them like the 9/11 coins are not terribly expensive while some can be really out of reach. You can always go look online or look at some catalogs to see what kind of gold coin the person you are gifting it to would like. If it is someone special and you would like to spend a lot, maybe an antique dealer or two would be worth visiting. This is probably where you would find something really rare and exclusive.

Gold coins really are the answer when you need to give a gift and you're stuck as to what to give. It doesn't matter what type of gold coin you ultimately choose. Now those people who are difficult to shop for no longer pose a problem. Just give them a gold coin!

Nostalgia of note

Belfort: Dwarves and Elves and Gnomes, Oh My!

The good news is: you've been hired to supervise the construction of the new castle. The bad news is: due to a clerical error, you're not the only one. And since there's only one key to the city (purely ceremonial), the king has decided to just award it to the one who shows the most promise by winter. Welcome to Belfort.

Container gardening: potatoes

One bit of gardening advice I've never agreed with is that people with small gardens shouldn't bother to plant vegetables that are cheap to buy, like onions, carrots and potatoes. Clearly the experts haven't thought this through. Who wants cheap onions when you could grow gold coins Borrettana Cipollini or Red Zeppelins? Onions are a good garden companion and can be tucked into bare spots ...
